Evergreen, Koha, & OSS ILS Information
Evergreen, Koha and Open Source Integrated Library Systems (OSS ILS) are the subject of much interest among librarians, system administrators, and library administrators. Opensource ILS provides a single portal for information about these technologies and how they can work in any library setting including academic, public, school and special libraries. The site will allow you to:
- Find out what OSS ILS has to offer to different types of libraries
- Evaluate OSS ILS to see if it can work for your library
- Learn about the steps involved in migrating to OSS ILS
- Locate technical assistance in the open source community as well as from support vendors

About this Site
Opensource ILS is a product of the OSS-Lib Tech research project, an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant-funded project that compared facets of technical support for proprietary and open source integrated library systems (ILS). The project is based at the Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee within the School of Information Sciences and is managed by lead researcher Dr. Vandana Singh.
The project consists of 3 phases:
- Phase 1 collected data regarding the expectations of librarians for technical support about proprietary and open source ILS.
- Phase 2 collected data about available support channels and compared paid and unpaid technical support.
- Phase 3 collected data about the experiences of librarians who have installed or are in the process of installing open source ILS. This website is a part of the third phase as an effort to create an information portal for available resources.
